Amazon Rainforest Fire: How you can help

Sadly, the Amazon Rainforest fires have been burning at record rates.

Since the beginning of 2019, there has been roughly 72,000 blazes detected.

Since mid November 2019 that number spiked an additional 9,500 fires in less than 2 weeks time.

That number is expected to increase.

Three important facts about the Amazon Rainforest:

1. The Amazon Rainforest trees and plants provide over 20% of Earths oxygen

2. Hundreds of endangered species and wildlife live in the Amazon Rainforest

3. There are an estimated 50 indigenous tribes living in the Amazon Rainforest

Knowing this hopefully compels you to want to help protect the air you breathe, save the helpless animal and wildlife, and provide safety to the tribes who call the rainforest their home.

Three ways you can help:

1. Rainforest Trust states Rainforest Trust purchases and protects the most threatened tropical forests, saving endangered wildlife through partnerships and community engagement. 100% of your donation directly funds the conservation act.

2. World Wildlife Fund (or WWF) needs urgent help with donations to the Amazon Emergency Appeal. These funds will be helping those who are doing the ground work with local government and supporting communities’ needs for medical support, fire fighter training and security.

3. Amazon Watch. A nonprofit organization founded to protect the rainforest and indigenous peoples in the Amazon Basin. Your donation will go directly to our work with indigenous communities to stop the destruction and defend their rights and homes.

Donations are not the only way you can help!

Here are three ways you can help that do not cost anything.

1. Wold Wildlife fund is seeking 50,000 signatures to take a stand with them and calling on the countries of the region - Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Venezuela, Guyana, and Suriname - to protect the Amazon, combat deforestation and reduce the causes of fires. 2. Use your social media voice to express your thoughts and bring awareness to this devastating event. Use hashtags like #AmazonRainforest and #PrayforAmazonia .

3. Contact your local elected officials. Urge them to use their platforms to raise awareness and call for action on the issue.

Each and every action matters. No action is too small!

Let's do our part to help protect and save this beautiful and important part of our planet!
